Star Parties

|
GENERAL We generally hold two star parties per year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Most parties have been held in the Group Area of Catalina State Park This location offers reasonably dark skies without our having to drive great distances from our community. This area has a sizeable, flat gravel expanse that is very convenient for setting up our viewing equipment. Adjacent this area are fireplaces and picnic benches that we utilize before dark.
Occasionally, star parties have been held within Sun City and are open to all residents.
The party in the fall is usually a "brown-bag" affair. Members bring their own dinners, and the club provides a charcoal fire for those wishing to barbecue.
The star party in the spring is usually preceded by a barbecue. The club provides hamburgers, hotdogs, veggie burgers, condiments and cold soft drinks. If you wish hot drinks, etc., bring your own. Of course, bring your telescopes and binoculars. If you do not own any, there should be plenty available for your enjoyment. The cost is free to paid-up members and for up to 2 of their guests. Additional guests may be invited by club members at a charge of $6.00 for each guest over 11 years old.
The turnout at our star parties is generally very good with several members bringing their telescopes and binoculars to the events. Our viewing experiences have been further enhanced by the magnanimous participation of a knowledgeable staff member of Starizona, who brings an advanced telescope.
