HISTORY & GOALS

Posse  History

The Posse is almost as old as Sun City Vistoso (SCV).  It was started by Del Webb who had large trailer loads of construction materials stored both in and near SCV.  The original 12 Posse Club members used their own vehicles to patrol the construction storage areas as well as the community.

Later, the Oro Valley Police Department (OVPD) donated out-of-service police cars.  Since then, the Sun City Vistoso Community Association has paid for the gas and upkeep of Posse vehicles.  On July 1, 1996, the Posse became part of the Sun City Vistoso Community Association and the Association also took over the responsibility of providing the Posse vehicles.  Currently, those vehicles are a pick-up truck and a car.

In May 2012, the name of our community was changed to Sun City Oro Valley (SCOV).

Security is Our Goal

Sun City Oro Valley has the lowest crime rate in Oro Valley, and one of the lowest in Arizona.  The OVPD, one of the best police departments in the USA, credits our Posse with a significant contribution of reducing the incidence of crime in SCOV, noting that our neighboring communities have had a significantly higher incidence of crimes such as burglaries, thefts and vandalism.

Posse members perform these tasks while on patrol:

  • Alert residents to open garage doors, a real attraction for snakes and other predators.

  • Take note of vehicles parked on our streets.

  • Watch for problems in the community.

  • Request assistance from OVPD as required.
