Posse Appreciation Event A Success.

The photo shows OVPD Chief Daniel Sharp making his remarks at the start of this year's Posse Recognition Event on March 28, 2012.   Chief Sharp and Posse squad leaders presented OVPD Certificates of Appreciation to the 2011 Frequent Flyers in attendance.

Also present to demonstrate their support of the Posse was Oro Valley Vice Mayor Lou Waters, OVPD Deputy Chief Larry Stevens, OVPD Executive Officer Lieutenant Kara Riley, OVPD Support Services leader Lieutenant Ed Schafer, Sergeant Amy Graham and Officer Jody Rammell.  The SCOVCA was represented by Board Members Janice Strassburg and Robert Hefner and General Manager Bob Mariani. We thank them all for attending.

Thanks, also, to Posse Secretary and Squad Leader Dee Bethke for handling the Master of Ceremonies task so well and for arranging for the tasty snacks and beverages.

Finally, thank you to all the 2011 Frequent Flyers and all Posse members for their contribution to their community.

April 7th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. we will be having our first of two Shred A Thon events. This event will be held at Best Buy located at 11855 N. Oracle Road in the Oro Valley Marketplace.  First two boxes are free and $10 a box after that.   We don't specify the size of the box.  Please take advantage of this to help prevent Identity theft.

The photo was taken near the end of another successful Dispose-A-Med event in the SCV Social Hall on March 13, 2012.  Check out the large quantity of pills in the big jug on the table.  The event was administered by volunteers from OVPD and SCOV.  A Posse squad leader, Larry Lee, was one of them.  He's the guy in the white hat.

Did you know that the SCV Dispose-A-Med events began through the initiative of the Sun City Oro
Valley Community Foundation and are staffed by Foundation and OVPD volunteers?  Larry Lee is also a member of the Foundation.

These SCOV Dispose-A-Med events are scheduled for the second Tuesday of every other month in the Social Hall from 9 to 11 AM.  Those dates for the rest of 2012 are May 8, July 10 and September 11

OVPD will be conducting the next Oro Valley Dispose-A-Med at Target on April 28.

After long-time Posse member and Squad Leader Dexter Jones retired from the Posse, Squad Leader Marian Horsley organized Squad A by herself.  That has changed:  Pat Monson has volunteered to take Dexter's place, and now Squad A has its full compliment of squad leaders.  Thank you, Pat, for agreeing to volunteer for this important task.

In addition to Marian and Pat, the other squad leaders are Dee Bethke, Florence Duckett, Larry Hoaglund, Larry Lee, Dick Mueller, George Puffett, Marilyn Rego and John Willis. Without the dedicated service of those volunteers, the Posse would not function. The entire SCOV community should be grateful to them for their service. Thank you Posse squad leaders!

The photo on the Home Page and on the cover of the March 2012 Tipster (at left) symbolizes the partnership that exists between your Posse and the Oro Valley Police Department (OVPD).  It exists, in large part, because a relatively small number of residents are willing to serve their community by being the eyes and ears of the OVPD during a large part of nearly every night of the year.  The result is that we live in one of the safest communities in Arizona.  But, we have a problem:  We often aren’t able to staff all of our patrols, especially during the summer.  We need more volunteers and we need more Posse members to go out on more patrols.  So, if you are in the Posse and haven't been on patrol in awhile, call your squad leaders and tell them you are ready for duty.  If you aren’t a Posse member, please join the Posse today.

Thank you OVPD and Posse volunteers for all you do for SCOV.

A special thanks to those on the Posse Frequent Flyer List below.  Those folks went out on patrol five or more times during 2011.  Take note of the person who went out the most.

Below is the summary of Posse activity for the entire year of 2011.

Take note of the open garage door number.  That means that the bad guys may have been

given 1013 opportunities to burglarize a garage, and maybe a car and the living spaces in the home as well.

Thank you Nancy Njaa for compiling this data for us throughout the year.
