Golder Ranch Fire District is a non-profit governmental entity dedicated to the preservation of life and property. We proudly serve the northern Oro Valley communities of Sun City/Rancho Vistoso, Catalina, Saddlebrooke, and Oracle Junction. Historically, Golder Ranch Fire District evolved from a volunteer organization to a fully paid, professional service that encompasses fire, medical, ambulance service, rescue, public education and a myriad of additional services. These services are paid for through a tax levy that is based upon the secondary assessed value of your home. Golder Ranch Fire District is proud to be the lowest cost FULL SERVICE fire district in Pima County. It is important to realize that this tax levy includes ambulance transportation and a comprehensive ALS (Advanced Life Support) system that is complimented by Paramedic Engine Companies and Paramedic Ambulances. If you need to be transported to a hospital, you will be transported to the hospital of your choice. However, it is important to realize that if your medical condition warrants a closer hospital, the Physician may request that you be transported to the closest medical facility. - Golder Ranch Fire District will bill Medicare, insurance, supplemental insurance, etc. (Known as third party billing) to recover the costs associated with the medical services. Golder Ranch Fire District will accept assignment for this billing as payment in full and there is no additional charge to the patient, UNLESS the patient is not a District resident.

Golder Ranch Fire District encourages you to visit the Fire Station in your community. The firefighters and paramedics would be happy to answer any questions you may have. The fire station serving you is:

ABOUT YOUR FIRE DISTRICT

The Golder Ranch Fire District was created in 1977 by a vote of the residents in the area. The homeowners wanted to have a voice in their fire and medical care and at the same time, monitor costs. Today the District serves a 70 square mile area with a population of about 20,000 residents. Included in the District are the communities of Sun City and Rancho Vistoso, which lie in Oro Valley, Catalina, SaddleBrooke, and Oracle Junction.

Golder Ranch is governed by a five member non-partisan board elected at large by the voters of the District. Board members are elected to alternating four-year terms so there are at least two members elected every two years. The Board establishes policy, sets tax rates, approves the budget, and hires the Fire Chief. The Board also has sole authority to set policy regarding future annexation. As a special district of the State, Golder Ranch must comply with all applicable Arizona Revised Statues such as the Open Meeting Law. The District holds public meetings on the second Monday of every month at the Fire District Administration Office.

The majority of revenue that supports the District is generated from a secondary property tax assessed on all real property. The maximum allowable tax rate by State statute is $3.00 per $100 assessed value. The current tax rate of $1.89 is well below that ceiling. In fact, Golder Ranch residents enjoy the lowest tax rate of all Pima County full-service fire districts. The tax rate has remained the same for over eight years. All taxes that are assessed by Golder Ranch are tax deductible.

ABOUT YOUR SERVICE LEVELS

Golder Ranch provides fire/rescue protection and emergency medical services including ambulance transport with 42 career firefighters. These personnel are supported by 2 chief officers, 1 fire marshal/prevention specialist, deputy fire marshal, 1 public information officer, 2 office staff personnel, 5 dispatchers, and 3 mechanics. In addition, Golder Ranch maintains a force of paid-on-call reserve firefighters who can quickly be mobilized if needed. All firefighters are trained in emergency medical care, and 70% have received advanced training as certified emergency paramedics.

Services are provided from three fire stations strategically located throughout the District. Each station is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The district provides its service with 5 ambulances, 4 pumpers, 4 water tenders, 5 brush trucks, and equipment/support vehicles. All fire stations and over 93% of our equipment is paid for an totally owned by the fire district. A vehicle replacement plan has been implemented to allow the district to continue delivering the high level of service that residents have come to expect.

FIRE PREVENTION BUREAU

One of the many advances made by the fire district over the last few years has been the addition of our Fire Prevention Bureau and adoption of the 1997 Uniform Fire Code. Golder Ranch Fire District brought before the residents of the district a public vote to adopt the Fire Code. The public voted 91% in favor of adopting the fire code. The Uniform Fire Code is a nationally recognized fire code approved by the State Fire Marshal. The fire code is enforced by the county Attorney in the same manner as any other law or ordinance of the county.

The Fire Prevention Bureau includes all fire service activity that decreases the incidence of uncontrolled fire. The methods used by the bureau focus on inspection, which includes engineering and code enforcement, public fire safety education, and fire investigation. The fire chief and fire marshal are directly responsible for overseeing all fire prevention activities.

It is the goal of the Fire Prevention bureau to work with all commercial structure owners to evaluate hazards, paying special attention for life safety concerns, and then establish an individual plan of action for each occupancy. The review of plans and specifications from new occupancies is a part of the code enforcement process intended to ensure compliance with fire protection and life safety provisions of the District.

WHY DOES A FIRE TRUCK RESPOND WITH THE AMBULANCE?

The answer to this question is simple; better service. When you or your loved one is having an emergency, it is important to receive care as quickly as possible. A fire engine responds with additional personnel to assist the paramedics on the ambulance in providing that care.

INSURANCE PREMIUM SAVINGS

The current ISO (Insurance Serices Office) rate within the Golder Ranch Fire District is 5 in areas with hydrants and 8 in areas without. These rates are used to determine your fire insurance premium rate. A low rate can yield significant cost savings to the property owner.

GOLDER RANCH FIRE DISTRICT IS HERE TO SERVE YOU!

Call or stop by the stations anytime. Help us keep your and your family fire safe. Check your smoke detectors weekly and call 911 in an emergency.
